And so it begins!

Today I left to start the beginning of my life-long dream to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer. After two years of waiting the day is finally here. I have been ready to go and get started on this new adventure, but I was not ready to say my goodbyes to my family and friends. I think the last few days of saying goodbye have been some of the hardest days for me. I know that with their support and love, I am going to do just fine. I am sure there are going to be many days ahead of me that are going to be a struggle, but I am ready for this new challenge.

I arrived in Philadelphia this afternoon after my second flight was delayed. The delayed flight was not really a problem until they lost my bag. As of right now (12:20) my bag is still MIA.  Training officially starts tomorrow at 12:00 and business casual attire is required. I hope jeans and my plain shirt will work! I learned my first lesson as a trainee- don't put all of your clothes in one bag! I have a few things of clothes with me but it is all my hiking/running clothes and hoddies. Not really what I need right now!

Tonight I was able to meet up with some of the other volunteers who I will be going with. Most of them are from the Seattle/Portland area. I am the only one in my group (SA25) that is from Utah. We went to dinner at a Chinese restaurant in China Town and then walked around the city until about midnight. It is kind of an creepy city to be in so it was cool to see it at night with all of the fog. They all seem very well educated and have all done some major traveling. This is rather intimidating, but only makes me want to work harder!

Well this will most likely be my only blog until the end of March. This blog thing is so new to me so pardon my inexperience! I hope to get some letters from you all to help with the homesickness while I can't call or email.  Love you all!
